Linking The Dots

We live in a generation that has been defined as a dot com generation where the world has been summarized to a small global village that is only a click away. However with all this latest development in technology, there are still challenges involved in reaching the grassroots women. Some of the challenges faced in my efforts to reach the grassroots communities is having to travel long distances so as to reach these communities, which means a lot of time and resources is to be taken into consideration. And when you get there you realize that the work load is beyond what one person can ever accomplish singlehandedly. Like they say; ‘the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few’. There is therefore always need for extra hand but not many are keen on getting involved in voluntary work so at the end of the day, only but a few communities are successfully reached.

In spite of the challenges, I am still able to advocate and be a catalyst for change and transformation in different communities- thanks to the dot-com era. I am involved in a number of on line social networks and programs. This has given me a forum to interest other people in the nature of work that I am doing and many have actually come on board. I am a student and board member for tuition free on line institute offering leadership development trainings to youth. Through this program I have met young people that are passionate about bringing change and transformation in their communities. We are able to share ideas and challenge each other to reach for our full potential. These forums have given me an opportunity to train, equip and mentor many young people without having to travel.

When I joined pulse wire, I was looking for a community that was particularly passionate about grassroots women that are seemingly impossible to reach due to a lack of latest technology in their communities. As a member of pulse wire; I have been able to connect with fellow members from my country so as to find out what they are already doing in order to avoid re-inventing the wheel but also to start discussions regarding possibilities of us joining efforts so as to do more for women in the grassroots. I have joined several groups on pulse wire and I am getting inspired by the different ideas and skills shared while adding my voice to these debates. In giving back I am now a mentor to a young lady in Nepal through the Mentor a girl group on this community. The resource exchange link is one of my favorite spots on the community and so far I have been able to apply for one conference and scholarship from this link. I am truly blessed being a member of this community. I look forward to being able to welcome new members so as to help them feel comfortable and help them get started.
