Fights for the wherabouts of Kashmir's estimated 10,000 disappeared, who are untraced after being picked up Indian secuirty forces. Parveena turned her personal tragedy into a struggle for the whole lot, after her eight year old son was picked from her home in 1990. She has not been able to locate his wherabouts, but the fight has brought down the state practice of disappearances considerably.

The conflict in Kashmir created an unprecendented number of widows and orphans in the region. Nighat, a buerucrat's wife, could not confine herself to her cosy home. She came and set up orphanages, and intitutes working for the betterment of orphans and widows of the region.
She is constantly adding dimensions to her work by digressing into more cinflict related problems, associated with women and children
