What Sort of Punishment Befits a Sexual Offender?

We live in a society where it is always the woman's fault whenever any sort of violence is meted out against her. In most cases, men being the offenders do not really see it as a big deal, preferring to think of it, as the woman having asked for it without words.

They have been heard to say that she wanted it because her clothes were so tight and provocative; the skirt was too short, her eyes were too sexy, she had long legs, and many other weird justifications for rape. Hallo!?! What hand did she have in the creation of her eyes and legs? Should she pluck them out or chop some inches off her legs to escape rape?

In Kenya, thousands of women continue to suffer in silence as their husbands rape them in their matrimonial beds. Here is a man who goes on a drinking spree with no regard to what his family will eat, and comes home stinking drunk, to demand for food. When the wife serves him the food she managed to get from whatever means, menial jobs most probably, he rains blows on her, with no slight regard to the fact that he did not leave her any money, so the food he finds unpalatable to his palette is a favor done him by the wife.

It never ends there as he goes the extra mile to demand his conjugal rights. The wife has only to show a slight hesitation and more blows are rained upon her, before she is brutally raped by the man she got married to out of love. She can not do anything about it, because she has been raised to believe that being the head of the family, her husband is also the owner of her body. She is also too afraid to speak out, lest people start talking about her.

Sadder still is the fact that there are reported cases of men raping their wives and daughters as either one watches, and the mother can't do anything about it because she is dependent on her husband, not to mention that it would be embarrassing to her, in the eyes of the neighbors, friends and relatives. She is usually afraid of being viewed as the one who encouraged her husband's behavior by failing in her duty as a wife and mother. She therefore chooses to shut up forever, and offer the other cheek every other day.

I say it is time to speak out; if he rapes you, he is not a husband but a beast, if he rapes his daughter, he is not a father but a monster! You have to take control of your life before it controls you to the grave.

Teachers are also finding themselves in the news for all the wrong reasons of late. They are turning their pupils and students into sex tools, toys and objects to be played with on a whim. These are the people in whose care we entrust our children as we eke out a livelihood and means to pay the school fees that pays their salaries. How does a 6 year old's dressing appeal to a 40 year old monster of a teacher sexually? How sexy are 4 year old curves to a man? Have our teachers become so much of peeping toms that they are turned on by the childish panties that their innocent under 10 year old charges put on?

Incest is also a very prevalent vice in our society, and it is not unheard of for the mother whose daughter is raped by a close relative to be blamed for not taking precautions to avert the disaster. In cases where the culprit is caught and arrested, the case seldom makes it to court as the mother of the victim is always bombarded by relatives and in some cases friends and neighbors with their supposed shock of her washing the family's dirty linen in public. The police are just human, and they easily release the culprit, after receiving a little bribe for their trouble, terming it a domestic matter that should be handled and settled at home. The offender, when set free is usually given the ticket to continue engaging in the vice, and with the support of the family, community and the law too, as the mother looks on, pretending not to see.

I wonder what goes on in a sex offender's mind, when he goes on to rape a 90+ year old woman, yet men continue arguing that rape victims dress provocatively. How sexy is a 90 year old woman's mode of dressing?
I wish I were a lawyer; I would fight for rapists' punishment by law, to be worse than the electric chair!
