"VOF Week 1:(My Voice through Web 2.0)"

Until I knew about the World Pulse, I was not familiar about Web 2.0. Firstly, I thought it would be some complicated software, on which I am not very smart. But after learning more about it, I really understood how useful it is. Through internet connection, the world has turned into a small global village and Web 2.0 has improved it. The main thing that excited me about Web 2.0 is that it facilitates communication and enhances sharing of information in a secured way on the worldwide web. It provides a platform for different organizations and individual to work together conveniently. In simple words, we get an easier and safer medium to let people of any part of world share their ideas. One of the basic human rights is freedom of expression, and Web 2.0 is a place where we can speak our mind freely beyond the borders. The interesting thing is though I had a blog and profiles in social- networking sites, I never knew that they are the parts of Web 2.0. After knowing the fact, I realized that Web 2.0 has influenced almost all aspects of internet and ultimately our life. We have both advantages of acquiring information and autonomy of sharing our ideas through it. For example, reading news of any part of the world has been an easier job. And there are many news sites where we can share our opinions about the news. Thus, I think the Web 2.0 provides freedom of sharing one’s views and ideas to the whole world in a fraction of time, which I bet everyone loves.

Empowerment means developing confidence on our own capacity. We gain confidence on ourselves when our ideas are heard and responded to. I think having Web 2.0 has made internet more liberal. As mentioned earlier, Web 2.0 is the space where we can easily listen to others and be listened to. Through Web 2.0, I have been able to reach my voice to any corner of the world. I have been able to share my ideas with people related to similar topic. For example, I have a blog related to poverty. In my blog, I got a room to share my thoughts, which I am reluctant to speak to my teachers and friends. While blogging, I linked many other bloggers related to poverty and its reduction. Also, accessibility to information about anything and from any place has broadened my perception about world and life in a positive way. Viewing other people’s blog that I linked has provided different perspective of inferring to a situations and finding out ways to solve problems. Thus, I feel free and secure to share my ideas and experiences through Web 2.0. I believe that Web 2.0 is a channel through which we can reach to people of any level. Hence, Web 2.0 empowers not only an individual but also a community and ultimately defines a new face of our world.
