  1. One Young World

One Young World is an initiative to give young people a place to engage and have their voices heard about their future. The initiative already has the support of Kofi Annan, Desmond Tutu and Bob Geldof among others as councillors. 1500 leaders of tomorrow born between 1984-1987 will be selected from 192 countries around the world will be found using BraveNewTalent.com’s integration into social networks around the world. There will be a leadership summit in London on February 8th-10th 2010 where these young leaders' voices will be heard. Draft resolutions are being created by Oxford University and these should act as a response to Copenhagen. One Young World could become a unified voice of the next generation for every sector, almost like a ‘Youth Kyoto’ or a ‘Young Davos’.

The event is a world first in that there will be 2 delegates from every country in the world and the remaining 1116 delegates will be selected in line with the spread of the world’s population. This means it will be the first time ever that countries such as India and China have their population fully represented at any global event. China will have 259 delegates, India 223, US 61 and UK 13 (and so on)...

One Young World launched in Davos with Kofi Annan and his Climate Justice movement. The initiative is now picking up international momentum.

  1. World Performing Arts Festival

The Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop (RPTW) has been working on promoting the performing arts of music, theatre, dance and more besides in Pakistan since 1976. In more recent years their promotions took the form of festivals of different kinds, and now it is the turn of the youth of Pakistan. The International Youth Performing Arts Festival started life as a local Youth Performing Arts Festival in Lahore. But as the festival’s name became more famous, 2006 saw it become the National Youth Performing Arts Festival. Now 2008, the festival has gained international fame and has matured to the International Youth Performing Arts Festival. It is a chance for the youth of all ages to see talent from across the world. More than that, it will be a chance to see different cultures, different forms of theatre and different people altogether.

It is because of this chance that over the years the festival has attracted huge crowds over the years, to see local and international acclaimed acts in dance, stage-acts, music, film and even puppeteering.

It is not only a chance for the people of Pakistan to see such differences; it is an opportunity for those who do not know Pakistan very well to understand the culture and traditions of the nation, a chance to converse with people, interact with the country and build bridges between the different countries to unit the world through a single passion; performing arts.

  1. TEHELKA

On January 31, 2004, after more than two years of persecution, Tehelka was reborn as a weekly newspaper committed to constructive, crusading journalism. As a people's paper geared to take a stand, to follow the hard investigative story. A fearless paper ready to create opinion, and not just remain a passive vehicle of news.

Over the years, Tehelka has firmly established itself as a people’s media choice. With public interest journalism, serious opinion and analysis, Tehelka has earned unmatched credibility and brand recall.

It has very quickly established an enviable reputation — national and international — for the quality of its reportage, the eminence of its writers, and the refinement of its analyses and ideas. As a premium English weekly, Tehelka, increasingly, influences almost every opinion leader and decision maker in the country.

Tehelka, earlier in a tabloid size, is now in a weekly magazine format. The magazine format only means a more compact and elegant design — the core values of public interest journalism and literary writing remain unchanged. Tehelka, India’s fastest growing English language weekly, in its new format is poised for a dramatic up scaling of visibility and readership.

This follows repeated demand by readers to switch to a magazine format, since the contents of Tehelka are seen to have much more shelf value and depth than a newspaper. This format with its easy size allows for longevity and high pass along readership, a necessary attribute given the depth and quality of writing in Tehelka. For ardent readers, the switch to a magazine has enhanced the positive values already inherent in Tehelka.

The new look Tehelka may be smaller in format but is much bigger in impact. Also brighter, crisper, more unputdownable.

In the seven years since it was born, Tehelka has stood the test. Its courage under fire is well-known. But most importantly, it has brought back into hard focus the two most crucial pillars of a free press: public interest and the appetite to question. Tehelka has broken some of the most seminal stories in India in recent years.

One of the most important keys to a free and just society is the existence of a strong and independent media. A media that acts as our conscience and brings news and perspective to us on issues of national interest. A media that acts without fear or favour. Today, perhaps more than any other media group in India, Tehelka has come to stand for these values.

Tehelka is led by Tarun J. Tejpal, a highly respected journalist and public icon in India. In 2001, Asiaweek listed him as \"one of Asia's 50 most powerful communicators\", and BusinessWeek declared him \"among 50 leaders at the forefront of change in Asia\". The December 2006 issue of The Guardian listed Tejpal as one of \"India's New Elite — Top 20?.

He is also the author of a widely acclaimed debut novel, The Alchemy of Desire, published by Picador Books in England in 2005.

  1. Muslimah Media Watch

About Us

Muslimah Media Watch is a forum where we, as Muslim women, can critique how our images appear in the media and popular culture. Although we are of different nationalities, sects, races, etc., we have something important in common: we’re tired of seeing ourselves portrayed by the media in ways that are one-dimensional and misleading. This is a space where, from a Muslim feminist perspective, we can speak up for ourselves.

As Muslim feminists we aim to locate and critique misogyny, sexism, patriarchy, Islamophobia, racism, and xenophobia as they affect Muslim women. Furthermore, we believe in equality — regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, and ability.

This blog is meant to be inclusive to all people, with a special focus on Muslim women. MMW strives to create an environment in which our writers and readers feel safe and welcome. We ask that you be considerate towards others and their opinions. This is a respectful forum for dialogue, not argument or personal attacks.

Teach India is a nation-building initiative (or social initiative) from the Times of India that brings together children in need of education and people who can contribute a little time towards teaching them. It is based on one simple principle: If you have the desire to teach, we will put you in touch with underprivileged children who are willing to learn. With over sixty of India’s committed NGOs, corporates, schools and social organizations already supporting our cause, we now look for selfless individuals to come forward and help change the future of a child forever, by giving just a few hours a week to Teach India
