Economic Empowerment of Grassroot Women

Dear Michelle Bachelet,

Women in rural community have been known to operate effectively in areas such as food production and preservation, craft and cottage indusries, trading, farming,,buying and selling ,service provision, etc. what seems to be evident in all these areas of operation is the inadequacy of mechnisms to turn these businesses into a formal economic structure so that these women can take advantage of the many surpportive facilities that exist.Occationally, progammes by goverments and public agencies provide skills:take off capital and other inputs, which were meant to support women interactions within the informal.Sadly, many of these progammes have been mostly adhoc and poorly sustained. With the expansion in global capital and growing transnational trade, what would become of the informal sector when women's creativity is largely ignored and left to rot through non-gender sensitive economic programmes?Should women in this sector be left unaided, and if so,what alternative bussnesses and economic arenas are available to them if they are to take advantage on the new investment environment driven by globalization. These and many other concerns have raised new questions on how women are benefiting from global trade and which environment is needed to support women's involvement.
I will like the UN women to address these issue critically these year.
