Celebration of International Day for Elimination Violence against Women



Violence against women is one of the most widespread violations of human right in worldwide. Women in all over the world are facing sexual and gender based violence in every single day and every spears of their life. Consequently, they lose their enthusiasm, efficiency and potentiality. To make this world a better place for all women and eliminate violence against women UN General Assembly designated 25th November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women by recognizing the urgent need for the universal application to women of the rights and principles with regard to equality, security, liberty, integrity and dignity of all human beings.



Wearing pink color ribbons and hanging posters with messages to stop violence against women the students of Asian University for Women and members of UNYSAB (United Nations Youth and Students Association of Bangladesh) Asian University for Women Chapter came out on the road for forming human chain. Beside this, for making awareness among the people and the community UNYSAB AUW Chapter has organized and attended in several programs like, poster presentation and poster competition, movie and documentary show on violence against women related issues, publishing magazine entitled \"PINK HOPE: A Call for a Better Tomorrow for All Women \", collecting sign and messages, workshop on human right and discussion secession on \"Women and Law in Bangladesh: Problems and Possible Solutions\", conducted by Professor Saira Rahman Khan, form School of Law, BRAC University. She mostly talked about that every year women in Bangladesh fall victim to domestic violence, rape, acid attacks and sexual harassment which lead mental and physical damage and sometimes leading to death, although the prevalent criminal laws on violence against women are exist. Also, she instigated a discourse on why so many women fail to get justice and highlighted the existing laws that pertain specifically to issues of violence against women.

Although the celebration was for one day long, this is not the end of the participation of UNYSAB AUW Chapter’s members on elimination of violence against women as we are going to work with a local NGO named YPSA, from where they will be closely working to eliminate violence against women. We believe that we have the power to make a difference in the lives of those women who encounter gender-based violence and to make a better world where man and women are treated equally.
