MEASURABLE EQUALITY

TO OUR MOST RESPECTED UN WOMEN AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR MICHELLE BACHELET

It is such a pleasure and honor ,for me to be writing this letter to support women in my community, women across the globe. I hope this letter will reach you while in good health as you unleash your potential for excellence upon women.

Discrimination….! Discrimination…..! Discrimination…….I am a woman forsaken, left to wonder in my space, no one sees my agony, no one sees, left to fend for children, left to suffer shame and sorrow. I just want the whole world to know that women and girls bear enormous hardships. They work so hard, so tirelessly to change their encounters such as gender based violence and harmful traditional practices which remains the most pervasive and persistent form of inequality and which deprives them the right to living worth lives. I believe in my heart its high time for the world must know that women are not play grounds, they are human beings like our counterparts, God created us the same, all women deserve love and respect.

Though men and women can never be the same and that we cannot change. However the idea of women are weaker sex has tarnished the whole meaning, letting discrimination to seat and relax on woman ‘s back. Just within a twinkle of an eye when a man sees a woman in the bush, already what comes to his mind is rape, degrading her, well knowing that she is a woman what can she do to me.

I have seen and heard the cry of my community members, its unbearable as well so alarming since the HIV/AIDS scourge is at its peak. Most women in my community cant talk, cry, dress well and drive their cars. The scourge is routinely enjoying their lives. This is due to the fact that the very same attitude to believe that a woman is a weaker sex as imposed by man is a tool to overpower them. So she can’t make decisions. It is of great torture, these traditional practices are contributing a big problem among women in my community. If again they refuse to meet their spouse’s needs it means she is cheating on him. Men tend to forget too much that women have equal rights like them. In my community an infected man would insist to indulge in unprotected sex. This sexual violence is unheard of in my community. Many times women are the ones who will go for HIV/AIDS and thus how a man will now have the privilege of knowing his status. And usually the man will force her wife to reveal the results if not she will face the consequences. I always wonder why cant men, women and girls unite to form a healthy globally family, no more violence, cries, no more pain and confusion and no more toiling of women.

Moreover women in my community are vulnerable to all Sexual transmitted diseases. A secretive kind of oppression goes on behind closed doors. Women in my community need to be empowered. When I look in the Bible how God took the Israelis out of Egypt, as we all know they were in bondage there in Egypt. As they were out on their way to Canaan they were persuaded by their enemies the Egyptians. They begun to murmur and started to utter words of defeat and failure upon themselves. They began to ask Moses questions .Moses could not believe what he was hearing from these people. Until he stood and told them that their God is with them they stopped. So Moses told them, he empowered them, he ministered to them and stood his ground to set up their minds to reach their destiny and that has sustained their journey they reached the Promised Land Canaan. Likewise women need to be empowered; they need to be rest assured. They ought to be told to appreciate and acknowledge themselves.

I believe UN agency can truly affect change on the ground to promote gender equality and uphold the rights and needs of women both on a local and global when it insists its fearlessness on this issue. As a woman I believe I have a right to say NO? Also I believe with Un agency setting goals and always amending their laws achieved and as well as they empower women across the globe - this will give answer to the unanswered questions.I hope this will contribute a lot.

Thank you,
Great Regards
Warona
