Beijing+20: Share your perspectives on 20 years of international gender equality and women’s empowerment efforts

In 1995, national governments and activists converged in Beijing for the Fourth World Conference on Women, making historic commitments to gender equality and women’s empowerment. On the 20th anniversary of this groundbreaking event, the United Nations and international actors are taking stock of progress in the past 20 years. The voices and experiences of grassroots women leaders are essential to this process of evaluating current realities and identifying future priorities. We want to hear your perspectives ahead of the next session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (Beijing+20), which will take place this March 9th to 20th.

Women in Power and Decision-making is among the 12 critical areas of concern identified at the 1995 Conference. We hope you will join the global discussion in this Leadership Group about the last 20 years of global efforts to achieve equality in decision-making for women.

Below are the objectives connected to Women in Power and Decision Making that were identified 20 years ago. World Pulse seeks your perspectives on the progress towards these goals in your community. Have you witnessed the fruits of national and international efforts towards women's equality and participation? What strategies have been most successful? What have been the major obstacles, and what lessons or best practices do you have to share on mitigating these challenges? Have you seen meaningful changes in the last 20 years? Are there new priorities that have emerged since the 1995 conference that you want to see achieve greater international commitment?
