Growing Up Girls

Story Awards banner image

Next month on 11 October, World Pulse will join communities across the globe in celebrating girls and their rights on the fifth annual International Day of the Girl.

In honor of girls everywhere, and in recognition of the many barriers to equality they face,we are looking for your stories. Tell us about your experiences growing up—and your vision for equality today.

What was it like growing up as a girl in your community? What were your trials and your triumphs? Were their barriers that kept you out of school? Did you have the same opportunities as your brothers? Was early marriage, or pregnancy, a pervasive threat?

What progress have you seen for girls since you were young? What is your vision for the girls in your community today? What will it take to make your vision a reality?

Whether you are a grandmother reflecting on your childhood or a young woman navigating current challenges, we want to hear your story! And if you are a guy trying to make the world a better place for girls, we want to hear your story too!

We also welcome creative writing and multimedia submissions on the theme of girls and girlhood.

THIS CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS CLOSES ON 6 OCTOBER AT 11:59 PM PST.
