Freedom of Voice
We are seeking stories about freedoms that we hold dear: speaking up, challenging oppression, freely connecting with one another, and accessing information.
World Pulse is built on the power of voice and people coming together to build movements for change. We celebrate every step forward knowing how many of us face repression and retaliation.
In English-speaking regions of Cameroon, Internet access has been shut down for weeks. Throughout 2016, several national governments responded to protests by cutting access to the Internet and messaging apps. Citizens of countries from Eritrea to Cuba face routine censorship. Press freedoms in the United States and around the world are under attack.
If you feel safe enough to share your story (read our guidelines about staying safe online), you might tell a story about the threats to freedom you have witnessed or experienced. Or you might speak out on behalf of voices that are silenced.
You can share a story about what free Internet access means in your life, or about censorship from the state, corporations, or other powerful institutions. Have you witnessed creative ways of circumventing restrictions or examples of successful resistance? Tell a story that celebrates perseverance in the face of oppression.
