I attended a Workshop for Violent Extremism stakeholders for Peace Storytellers on Wednesday, November 14, at the U.S. Embassy Yaounde.
Before I joined World Pulse, I had never told my personal story publicly. I could not understand why thousands of people had to know my history especially the hurting aspects. The stories I have read on the World Pulse platform have been very healing and many people have benefited from getting the opportunity to pass on their wisdom to others.
As I began sharing my stories, the whole world noticed me and the work I do.
Today, I am a recognized story teller in our community!
Some days ago I received an invite to attend a workshop on storytelling to help prevent violent extremism with the American Story teller, Queen Nur form the USA. She is a member of the national association of Black story tellers.
Her stories capture historical experiences, celebrate folkloric traditions, and speak to the essence of humanity. This US Embassy-sponsored project was captioned, ‘WE WIN: countering violent extremism and youth radicalization through storytelling’, the object of which was to use storytelling as a tool to transmit the message of peace in our nation.
We got a lot out of Queen’s program as we learned how to us storytelling to advance peace in our nation. Of course with lots of fun as we continued to the Cameroon Cultural center for a live performance on stage. The leanings will help us sustain our community as we work with our marginalized communities.
At the end we received certificates of participation as Community Ambassadors.

Why do I share my story? To inspires people to push on with what they are trying to achieve in bringing social change to communities.
Every culture has its own stories or narratives, which are shared as a means of entertainment, education, cultural preservation or instilling moral values.
We need to know and express our own stories!
I look forward to work on other storytelling projects with Queen.
