GENDER DISCRIMINATION: ARE HUMAN RIGHTS EXCLUSIVE TO MEN ALONE?

I am a graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. I am highly passionate about the protection of women and children against subjugation and violence. Growing up in an abusive home, I have witnessed and experienced domestic violence involving physical abuse. I am a very strong advocate for the fight against domestic violence on women and children.

Besides this, I have experienced some of the prejudice and discrimination women face on the path of success. In the course of my studies at the tertiary institution, I repeatedly encountered difficulties and unnecessary delays as a result of my gender. I strongly believe in having a societal system where women and girls will be able to speak up for themselves without the fear of being shut down or subdued because of their gender. We all have a right to be heard and given fair judgement as humans, irrespective of our gender.

In work places, women experience discrimination every day. Some have been deliberately denied positions for which they qualify and rightly deserved because of their gender. I believe it is important that all human beings be given equal opportunities for success in life and be given also the same platform for expression, regardless of gender differences.
