Music Beyond Sight & Sound Community Project

In August 4th 2018,  our organization known as the Initiative for National Growth Africa   convened at the Federal Nigerian Society For The Blind Oshodi, Lagos state Nigeria to engage , educate and empower the lives of 70 students,  and over 60 caregivers, parents and guests speakers in various Career Development Courses on Music,  Public Speaking, Mobility skills, Legal rights, sports, Mass communication, Psychology and Emotional intelligence.

It was truly impactful because, we not only believe in providing capacity based training for limited vision persons and their caregivers but we also try to connect them to decent works were they can exercise their rights in social opportunities to promoting their career growth.

We successfully linked 3 visually impaired students to a Radio Station for a media career internship, 2 others proceeded to pursue their skills on office document management in a reputable organization.

This year on the 16th of January 2019, we had the opportunity to launch our "Music Beyond Sight & Sound Community Project " in collaboration with the Music For Care Team , the students of the Federal Nigerian Society for the Blind, Oshodi, Lagos State, Nigeria  and with the management staffs of the school.

In our community, people with visual impairment and persons living with life-threatening experiences are marginalized and excluded from family, mainstream school, the community and society for some unknown or superstitious reasons. Exclusion from access and development programs leaves them socially, psychologically, financially and emotionally scarred. We intend to change the narrative using the power of the voice through music and the media.

Because we believe that training our visually impaired students in musical skills is not enough, we go ahead to accelerate their musical career, giving them a voice to become what they ought to be in promoting an inclusive system and enhancing their career in music.

We appreciate the  principal of the Federal Nigerian Society for the Blind - Mr Nicholas Sylvester Obot and Mr Yekini - the Music director for the School for the amazing reception at the launch of this musical project last week.

The aim and objectives of this project is to:

provide motion aids supplies like smart white canes, brailles, computers, musical instruments, learning tools and resources from this campaign to non profit organizations that have demonstrated a high level of commitment to persons living with limited vision.

If you wish to collaborate with us in this musical career which will be taking place on from February 2019 to May 2019, please contact us on info@initiativefornationalgrowth.org or follow our Instagram Page , LinkedinTwitter,  Facebook  and check our website -  www.initiativefornationalgrowth.org  for more details on our community development projects.

We need more volunteers in our community projects knowing fully well that we cannot do this alone and distance is no barrier to making a social change for people living with special needs.
