Menstruation Matters

Let's talk about periods.

In every country, menstruation comes with taboos and stigma. Managing menstruation with dignity, across cultures, socio-economic status, abilities, and even gender, can be a remarkable challenge. Ahead of Menstrual Hygiene Day (28 May), join us as we speak out and celebrate our periods.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • How is menstruation celebrated—or disparaged—in your country and community?
  • Share the story of your first period. How did life change for you, if it did?
  • Are you a menstrual health educator or activist? Tell us about your work—your challenges, your successes, and the impact you are creating.
  • Are you a person with a disability? Do you face unique challenges regarding your period? Share about them here.
  • Are you a trans or non-binary person? What do you want the world to know about how you experience menstruation?
  • If you have a daughter and a young person in your life, how do you hope they will experience their first period?
  • What rituals can we create to celebrate menstruation?

Menstruation shouldn’t be a hush-hush topic—and we can’t let taboos stand in the way of our health and wellbeing. Share your story. Let’s have a real conversation about periods.
