Story
In the course of writing a book draft about Brave: The Global Girls' Revolution, I've had conversations with many brave young women and read about others. For example, Yara, age 15, demonstrated on the front lines in the January 24, 2011, youth-led uprising that ousted dictator Hosni Mubarak in only 18 days.During the occupation of Tahrir Square, she saw people die, including a friend, which inspired her to continue on to complete their cause. She told me,“We learned a long time ago to not fear bullets, sticks, fires, or jail. We seek freedom and death with the same zeal that ‘they’ seek life in ignominy.” Tara was also brave in her high school in Cairo:“In my school I’m not allowed to voice my thoughts; I get in trouble because of it. I refuse to let my voice not be heard. I’m a straight A student, so teachers are more or less tolerant.” i invite you to critique chapters in the book and add your viewpoints while it's still in draft form.
