5 Problems With Pakistan’s Education System

Pakistan’s education system, comprised of six levels, is considered to be lacking in certain ways. From the issue of the underdeveloped and substandard academic system in rural areas to the low rates of female literacy, the education sector of this country has many flaws.

The media and citizens attempt to shed light on these issues in order to fix them, but no real progress can be made without the joint efforts of every individual.

What are some of the most glaring issues in our education system? Here are 5 of them highlighted briefly:

  1. The lack of awareness about the importance of education in rural societies  The greatest problem that has been affecting the education system since the creation of Pakistan is the people’s disregard for formal education, particularly in rural areas. They don’t see the benefits and significance of education, and therefore do not try to gain it.

  2. The shortage of necessary educational resources The concept of ghost schools is not new in Pakistan. There are also many school buildings that contain no desks, chairs, blackboards, and chalk, especially in underdeveloped areas like villages.

  3. Cultural boundaries A lot of people in Pakistan do not support the concept of attaining formal education. They are content with what they learn through their life’s experiences and what some religious leaders tell them. These boundaries also hold back those who do want to become educated.

  4. Financial limitations In Pakistan, private schools offer a better level of education than public institutions. However, not all families can afford to send their children to expensive schools due to financial limitations. And, when the time for higher education arrives, many capable students are left with no choice but to drop out because their grades did not make the cut for scholarships but they also lacked the financial resources to afford tuition fees.

  5. Fixation on outdated and harmful methods of studying Rote-memorization, plagiarism, cramming, and accepting information without questioning it are all poor studying methods that prevail in Pakistan. Students are taught to mindlessly consume material written in low-quality past papers and book notes which hinders their thinking abilities and their likelihood of obtaining good marks. This negatively influences the education system and prevents students from becoming able to ask questions and think critically.

The above mentioned flaws are just a select few out of many. However, with the right effort, these problems can be eradicated. If students are willing to set their past paper booklets aside instead of rote-learning them, they will be able to reach better levels of being knowledgeable. Using resources like tutoria.pk to study will allow them to further enhance their learning abilities instead of simply relying on rote-memorizing low-quality solved past papers.
