Benefits of Web 2.0

2013 VOF WEEK 1

Thanks to Web 2.0 for creating a platforms for women young and old to come together and share their voices on line. The programme enables online engagement and information sharing! But most importantly I am excited with the tools it is bring to us in order to support our visions of bringing social change and transformation.

Web 2.0 is bringing about solutions to the global women’s empowerment movement; amongst other been that women on local and global spaces can equally exercise their view on Human Rights issues regardless of language and level of education, it also aims to provide space for women to voice out and share their life experiences which in time reaches out to other and builds spirit of sharing and sense of belonging and connecters around the globe.

Secondly, there have been questions within and around women of which were never answered to, but within this programme especially through its social network platform, most questions are been answered and attended to. Social network for me, is a safe space where women with the same concern connects and through a continuum process work around sharing ideas, giving highlights, conducting awareness campaigns and overall been together as Agents of change.

Not all women are equipped in the web programming and knowledge, and often wondering,” is it worth it? They sometime think that no one will have time to go through their stories or work and also finds time to edit and makes sense of the context, the solutions is that, with Web 2.0 that is not the case! Digital Media is a safe space to voice out anyhow in the language of preference, and using this tools one learns the techniques through the support of your peer members and your programme support team, I am even more convinced that we have solutions to all our challenges and questions because we exchange ideas and get comments and feedback in all articles posted.

Web 2.0 can be empowering on the following ways:
1. Digital media (Facebook and Twitter); empowers individuals to express their views and opinion of which can transform others from current situations or challenges to change. Through sharing ideas, we are empowered to raise awareness on different issues and contributory factors and provided with space for ongoing movement or organisational building.
2. Social Network; I am more passionate in this platform as its builds community and connect people who shares similar interests and possibly ways of bringing upon change .we are also empowered on the importance of sharing activities online and through feed backs received, your knowledge, ability and understanding increases
