Child abuse, abusers and enablers

Some few days ago, a video of a father brutally smacking his infant child went viral on social media.

Of course, the whole world came out in condemnation of the man and thankfully, he was traced, arrested and persecuted.

What irked me is that Africans especially Nigerians participated in the condemnation.

There is nothing bads  about condeming child abuse, but there is alot of bads and wrongs about the hypocrisy behind it.

Child abuse, is a part of African cultural upbringing, it has always been and sadly still is.

We are not making any attempts to address it as a people and society. Everyday I see people justifying it using the saying 'spare the rod and spoil the child'.

Hence, we look the other way and allow parents abuse thier children because afterall, they are thier children.

We must in all honesty call out, report, and do the needful when we see parents abuse thier children regardless of whatever the reason may be.

I always say,  violence can never be the language of love. Therefore, the only thing Parents should do and act towards thier children is love, and love does not hurt.

I may be wrong, but I will always stand by my conviction that parental abuse does more harm than good. I will never endorse it as a parenting method, never have and never will.

Hence, before we condemn those far away from us, we should start by condeming in strong terms those close to us.

Please, mothers, Sisters, Aunties, Friends and spouses, enough of enabling abuse in the name of child training/parenting.

It is time we stop enabling child abuse. If you were raised that way, dont carry it on.

If you know anyone who does that, make sure to stop them whoever they are.

It is about time we stop raising broken people.

Let this end with us.
