May 28, 2019
Story
On the 27th September 2014 45 Deaf unemployed and employed women attended the lauch of Deaf Women Economic Emancipation Program (DWEEP) in the Khayelitsha township, Western Cape Province.
The main objective of DWEEP is to empower unemployed Deaf women and young women who aspire into becoming social entrepreneurs in the craft that they are passionate of and to create an environment that will enable self employment initiative programmes.
The ultimate goal of the DWEEP program is to have sustainable and progressive economic resources that would empower deaf women notwithstanding the fact that able bodied women will also partake in the program, to encourage and promote inclusivity and colloboration in our communities.
DWEEP would only become a reality and sustainable if there is a strong point of reference, institutions and information centres that will serve as a beneficial resource especially when an immediate assistance is required i.e access to funding, training opportunities, mentorship and skills development. Furthermore DWEEP aims to empower women with tools of leadership and economic emancipation.
