Rock n Roll Camp 4 Girls
Jan 21, 2015
First story
I just finished two fantastic weeks of volunteering at Portland's Rock n Roll Camp for Girls!!
it was amazing as always
all of my drum students were so good. i taught beginners both sessions but they all learned so quickly!
just a little background info, the rnrc4g
"We Put the 'AMP' in CAMP
OUR MISSION
The Rock’n’Roll Camp for Girls, a 501(c)3
non-profit, builds girls self-esteem through
music creation and performance. Providing
workshops and technical training, we create
leadership opportunities, cultivate a supportive
community of peers and mentors, and
encourage social change and the development
of life skills."
i've been a part of rock camp since i was 15, as a camper, an intern and a volunteer
the number of rock camps for girls has been rapidly increasing since the original Portland camps opening in 2001
similar camps have sprung up nationally in cities like Austin Texas, Seattle WA, New York, Atlanta Georga, Nashville, Chicago, Durham NC, Oakland, Columbus Ohio, Washington DC and Philly
as well as some international camps in Sweden, London, Canada and others.
these camps are all loosely affiliated through the Girls Rock Camp Alliance (girlsrockcampalliance.org)
I am really hoping to find a way to visit as many of these camps as possible, maybe i can write a grant to my college! but i dont know if they have post-graduate funding like that available :(
wish me luck!
