Training Marginalized Girls and Women in Photography and Visual Storytelling

At Lensational, we empower marginalized girls and women through training in photography and visual storytelling.

Economically, women only earn one-tenth of the world's income. 6 out of 10 of the world’s poorest people are women. One of the predominant reasons for economic inequality is that women spend 2 to 10 times more time on unpaid care responsibilities than men. Emotionally, they are often barred from expressing themselves not only because two-thirds of the global illiterate population are women, but because of our inherited patriarchal system. Some women’s voices are rarely heard due to structural and societal barriers.

In this context, photography can serve as a tool that transcends these barriers. We aim to empower girls and women who go through different types of oppression as a result of gender that is further exacerbated by their cultural backgrounds and socio-economic factors. We target marginalized girls and women from different regions who share similar experiences.
