I was invited to be the keynote speaker for our local council's celebration on IWD 2016. It was a cruel 40-degree day for autumn and that afternoon I marched in the city with my daughters with many determined women celebrating 'our' day. The evening before we had marched to plea for 267 asylum seekers and their children to remain in Australia and not be sent to the detention centre in Nauru. The treatment of refugees, particularly children is an ongoing crisis of conscious for many people in Australia because both major political parties have policies of offshore detention and 'turn back the boats'.
