Nominations for the Sisterhood Award

Sisterhood is finding ways to make change together. Sisterhood is creating ways for us to find and work effectively together. Sisterhood is making sure we are all included.

I was first aware of Stella Paul as a roving reporter travelling outside the main areas, to make sure that women who had never told their stories got heard. This was no small effort, and her determination showed me in those first few years of discovering what World Pulse is all about, that no women are to be left out. She inspired me to make my own plans to travel off the beaten path. As the Ambassador Program was launched, there was Stella as our Lead. She never ceases to amaze me by her calmness, her seemingly endless source of energy, and her dedication to whoever she is with, whether sitting under a tree with a woman who has never been asked about her life, or bringing our Ambassador meetings to life with her love, laughter, and powerful example of outspoken woman and facilitator, eloquently, seemingly effortlessly drawing out the news we have to offer each other. Stella, like your name you are truly a star, shining so brightly and showing us all the true spirit of World Pulse.

Olutosin Oladosu caught my eye early as a magical juggler of many projects, with a heart of gold for every woman or girl who crosses her path, whether in need of help, with housing, or food, for an ear for a story or to solve a problem, for training into a small business - all with the flair of a true artist whose work goes directly back into her community and into the work of World Pulse. It was when she reported to us her driving into territory where villages had been ransacked and destroyed, where people had been killed, and bringing back women and children to her home for safety, and fundraising to get the girls into school, that I learned how brave, determined and dedicated a sister can be. Her courage, her expectation of and belief in herself, and through this her emergence as a leader in World Pulse has inspired me now for years, in what is possible. Recently we were able to meet in person. Such joy to have an evening with a sister with whom sisterhood was made possible by our connection online through World Pulse, sealed with hugs, and discussion into the night with a sister who truly embodies World Pulse.

My third nomination is for Tiffany Brar whose New Year Plan for 2020 is simply put: Goal, Plan, Action. Tiffany has been working away at creating support for what she lovingly calls her community, “my very own blind community”. She plans to train at least 100 blind women in handwork that will create economic independence. Tiffany has been a strong reminder for me of the very spirit of World Pulse. That we are committed to make sure that no woman is forgotten or left out. When I imagine what Tiffany is accomplishing, I am truly inspired that despite any hurdles we meet, the path must be cleared and that we can and must find a way to make sure that every woman is safe, free and living well.

I don’t envy those set to make the final decisions on these awards. I hope that named or not, everyone following this exciting new activity will be even more strongly convinced that together we, each one of us, are shining stars in an extraordinary web of change makers, and that it is all of us who have made World Pulse as magnificent and beautifully powerful as we are, all together.
